This recording employs spondee words imbedded in speech spectrum noise bursts.  It is in two sections; section 1 is where both the noise and the spondees are in phase, section 2 is where the noise is in phase and the spondees are 180 degrees out of phase. A release from masking is expected in the latter section.

The Masking Level Difference-Speech© includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score form as printable pdf files. The one-page instructions contain administration, scoring, and interpretation information. Normative data is included, but it is not age-specific.

wipeable wipi

Does Auditec offer a picture-pointing test for young children in other languages? Yes, a similar test is available in Spanish called the Spanish Pediatric Picture Identification Test. If your pediatric patient speaks a different language, consider employing a test with nonverbal stimuli such as the Sound Effects Recognition Test.

⇒What is the difference between the WIPI First Edition and WIPI Second Edition?

  1. The original authors of the WIPI developed a second edition to clear up the ambiguity of the first edition. In some cases the picture contains a more modern depiction, such as the coke bottle is now 2-liter bottle. About one picture per page was changed.
  2. The word list was changed. Therefore, the WIPI recording must correspond to the correct version.
  3. If you are unsure whether you own the first or second edition, check the color of the cover. If you own one of the old printed WIPI First Edition books, the cover will be either blue or green. The WIPI Second Edition is a dark red/ maroon color.

Multitalker Noise – 20 Talkers© (Frank Version)

This version of Multitalker Noise -20 Talkers© was developed by Tom Frank. Twenty young adults were recorded simultaneously reading different passages. It is a babble, obviously speech, but completely unintelligible so that it is less likely to be a semantic distracter than Four Talkers, a single talker or perhaps cafeteria noise. The level is remarkably stable over time.

The Multitalker Noise – 20 Talkers© (Frank Version) includes the audio recording only. This product does not include instructions or normative data. It is assumed that purchasers of Auditec’s products are well trained in their use, purpose, and interpretation.
