It is considered a temporal test using auditory pattern temporal ordering (APTO) and is sensitive to cortical lesions, interhemispheric transfer. Masking Level Difference-Tone©

The Masking Level Difference-Tone© is an auditory processing disorder test. It is considered a binaural interaction test sensitive to low brainstem. The MLD Tone (500Hz) uses nonverbal stimuli. It is a short test in which both hetero- and homo-phasic trials are contained.  A release from masking is expected in the heterophasic conditions. This test was designed and recorded by Richard Wilson. Test administration is approximately five minutes.
