Dichotic Digits-Musiek©

The Dichotic Digits test is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 7 and up using verbal stimuli. It is considered a dichotic test for binaural integration sensitive to brainstem, cortical, and corpus callosal lesions.

Dichotic Digits – Musiek© is a test by Dr. Frank Musiek. This version is similar to the Dichotic Digits standard version.  That is, digits from one to ten are presented dichotically.  One set is single pair; the second is double pair.  Usually, the single pair set is for practice. Dichotic Digits-Musiek version includes the digit “seven.” In contrast, the standard version does not include the digit “seven” since it is a two syllable word in contrast to the other nine digits. The Musiek version includes age-specific normative data on double digits for ages 7 and up. The standard version includes normative data on double digits for ages 11 and up.

Is the Musiek version or standard version better? Neither version is considered better. Both versions are popular and widely used. Decisions are mainly based on which version the audiologist was originally trained in or by personal preference. Due to the similarities between the standard and Musiek versions, it is usually unnecessary to purchase both versions.

Dichotic Digits-Musiek© includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score form as printable pdf files.  The two-page instructions consist of administration, scoring, and interpretation information. It includes age-specific normative data on double digits for ages 7 and up.

Random Gap Detection Test© – Standard & Expanded

The Random Gap Detection Test© -Standard and Expanded version is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 5 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using temporal resolution and is sensitive to cortical particularly left temporal lobe lesions.

The Random Gap Detection Test© (RGDT)-Standard and Expanded includes the standard RGDT in its entirety along with an expanded portion at the end. The expanded portion of the test is included for individuals whose gap detection threshold exceeds 40 msec.  This test begins at time intervals longer than those measured by the standard portion of the RGDT, and includes time intervals of 10 msec. between 40 and 100 msec, and 50 msec. intervals between 100 and 300 msec.  The expanded portion of the test is administered in the same manner as the standard portion.

Individuals who require the expanded portion of the test have already demonstrated abnormal temporal processing abilities. The single purpose is to determine the time interval in which their gap detection thresholds exist. This information can be used to measure improvement in temporal processing abilities following remediation. By definition, patients with temporal processing disorders will have a wide range of gap detection thresholds. Therefore, there are no normative data associated with the expanded portion of the RGDT.

The Random Gap Detection Test©-Standard and Expanded includes a) audio recording, and b) manual and score forms as printable pdf files. The 31-page manual pertains to the standard portion of the test. It is comprised of sections on development, background, administration, and interpretation. It includes normative data for ages 5 and up. An additional sheet with sections on administration and interpretation is included for the expanded portion of the test.

Random Gap Detection Test© (RGDT) – Standard

The Random Gap Detection Test© (RGDT)-Standard is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 5 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using temporal resolution and is sensitive to cortical particularly left temporal lobe lesions.

This test is a variation on the AFT-R.  It differs from the AFT-R:  First, in the AFT-R, the stimulus presentations are in serial order from no gap to large gap and back to no gap, often resulting in perseveration in some subjects.  Since randomization successfully eliminates the problem of perseveration, the RGDT gap duration presentations of the stimuli are randomized.  Second, the number of test frequencies has been reduced to four.  Third, Click stimuli have been added. The developer states it takes approximately 10 minutes to administer and score the RGDT.

The Random Gap Detection Test© (RGDT) -Standard includes a) audio recording, and b) manual and score forms as printable pdf files. The 31-page manual is comprised of sections on development, background, administration, and interpretation. It includes normative data for ages 5-7, 8, 9, and 10-11. The developer recommends using the normative data for the 10-11 age category as a guideline for testing patients older than 11. (Normative values for the AFT-R are included for ages 5-70 due to their similarity.)

Duration Pattern Sequence-Standard©

The Duration Pattern Sequence (DPS) -Standard© is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 11 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using auditory pattern temporal ordering (APTO) and is sensitive to cortical lesions, interhemispheric transfer.

Similar to the Pitch Pattern Sequence (PPS) test, the Duration Pattern Sequence (DPS)-Standard© also explores pattern perception. However, instead of employing tones of different frequencies, the DPS test uses a single frequency tone at two dissimilar durations. Specifically, each pattern is made up of three 1000 Hz tones of one of two durations. That is, two short, one long or one long, two short, in disparate patterns. There is a total of 60 presentations plus 10 additional patterns for practice.

Duration Pattern Sequence-Standard© includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score forms as printable pdf files. The one-page instructions consist of administration and interpretation. Gaps In Noise (GIN)©

The Gaps In Noise (GIN)© test is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 7 and older using non-verbal stimuli. It is designed to measure temporal resolution.  Temporal resolution refers to the ability to detect changes either in the duration of an auditory stimulus and/or the time intervals or gaps of silence embedded within an auditory stimulus.  The ability to detect small silent intervals is an important factor in speech perception. This GIN test is a  valuable test for the evaluation of this ability.

The GIN test is composed of a series or lists of noise bursts which contain various intervals of silence.  The recording consists of four forms called lists plus a shorter practice list to ensure the patient understands the task.  The silent intervals vary from 0 (i.e. no gap) to 20 msec.  The gaps, or periods of silence, are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 or 20 msec.  There are a total of 60 randomized gaps (6 of each gap) in each list (series). Administration time is approximately 35 minutes. To facilitate accurate scoring the recording is two channels, one being the test track, the other, for the examiner, indicates with a brief tone when the gap occurs in the other (test) track.

The Gaps In Noise (GIN)© includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score forms as printable pdf files. The three-page instructions include information on administration, scoring, and interpretation.
