This Northwestern University-Children’s Perception of Speech (NU-CHIPS) Picture Books & Female Recording product is the female talker version. It is a closed-set picture-pointing word recognition test for children whose language age is as low as three. The test is made up of 50 words familiar to three-year-olds in four randomizations called forms.

The NUCHIPS Picture Books & Female Recording includes a) picture books, b) audio recording, and c) instructions and score form as printable pdf files. The seventeen-page instruction manual includes administration, scoring, and interpretation information. Age-specific normative data is included for ages three and up.

⇒How does the Harris version differ from the Standard version? Both versions consist of trisyllable words for SRT and bisyllable words for word recognition; however, the lists consist of different words. Both include patient instructions in Spanish. The Standard version includes written patient instructions, but the Harris version includes verbal instructions. The Harris version would be most appropriate for patients from Central America or southern Mexico. The Standard version would be best for patients from northern Mexico. The Harris version does not utilize a carrier phrase and has a three-second interval between words, but the Standard version does use a carrier phrase and has a four-second interval between words.
