The Selective Auditory Attention Test (SAAT) is a monaural low-redundancy speech test. It was developed to aid in the early identification of young children who have poor ability to attend (attention deficit), especially in noise. The SAAT is a closed set picture pointing task, employing the Word Intelligibility by Picture Identification First Edition (WIPI 1st Ed.) words and pictures. SAAT consists of two parts, two lists of WIPI 1st Ed. words in quiet and two lists imbedded (mixed) in a semantic distractor, which is a competing message (an interesting story). The signal-to-noise ratio is a nominal 0 dB. The SAAT can be given with earphones or over a loudspeaker.
The Selective Auditory Attention Test (SAAT) includes a) SAAT audio recording, and b) WIPI 1st Ed. Picture CD-Rom, and c) SAAT instructions and score forms as printable pdf files. The seventeen-page instructions include information on administration, scoring, and interpretation. Normative data is included for ages four through nine. Available from Auditec, Inc.
