The Child Spondees is considered a speech threshold (or speech reception threshold-SRT) test. It is a list of spondaic words that was selected to be familiar to children. Auditec recorded 51 words in one randomization. The medium SRT is 20 dB SPL. (Consider Picture Spondee Words for young or non-verbal patients.)

The standard amount of time given for the patient to respond is approximately four seconds. Short-interval versions only give the patient 2.5 seconds for the patient to  respond. It is an effective way to speed up administration time, but this version is not recommended for young children or the elderly.

Child Spondees includes a) audio recording and b) printed word list. This product does not include administration instructions or normative data. This Northwestern University-Children’s Perception of Speech (NU-CHIPS) Picture Books & Recording product is the male talker version. It is a closed-set picture-pointing word recognition test for children whose language age is as low as three. SCAN-3 Adult & Adolescent©

The SCAN-3 Adult & Adolescent© version is for ages 13-60. It is a battery of tests for the detection of (central) auditory processing disorders.  SCAN-3 was developed to assist in the identification of specific auditory processing difficulties; differentiating auditory processing disorders form auditory processing skills and auditory attention difficulties.  The pattern of an individual’s test results will help in the planning of intervention activities to help minimize the impact that an auditory processing disorder can have on school, work, home and the community.

SCAN-3 can be used as a screening test, requiring only about 10-15 minutes to administer, or a diagnostic assessment can be achieved in 30-45 minutes.  The screening tests have normative based criterion –referenced scores.  The diagnostic test results in scaled scores, and percentile ranks.  Ear advantage scores for most of the tests are obtained.
