W-22 Ordered by Difficulty©

The W-22 Ordered by Difficulty© is a word recognition or speech discrimination test. It consists of four lists of 25 words each selected by D. Rose so that they are ordered from most likely to be missed to the least likely. If the first 10 items (or 9 of the 10) are heard correctly, the test is halted, since it is assumed that an individual with word recognition difficulty will be most likely to miss the most difficult items. Persons who miss more than one of the first ten items are given the entire 25-word list. The administration time will vary from 4-21 minutes depending on how well the patient performs.

The W-22 Ordered by Difficulty© includes a) audio recording, and b) word list. This product does not include instructions or normative data. It is assumed that purchasers of Auditec’s products are well trained in their use, purpose, and interpretation.

Duration Pattern Sequence-Standard©

The Duration Pattern Sequence (DPS) -Standard© is an auditory processing disorder test for ages 11 and up using non-verbal stimuli. It is considered a temporal test using auditory pattern temporal ordering (APTO) and is sensitive to cortical lesions, interhemispheric transfer.

Similar to the Pitch Pattern Sequence (PPS) test, the Duration Pattern Sequence (DPS)-Standard© also explores pattern perception. However, instead of employing tones of different frequencies, the DPS test uses a single frequency tone at two dissimilar durations. Specifically, each pattern is made up of three 1000 Hz tones of one of two durations. That is, two short, one long or one long, two short, in disparate patterns. There is a total of 60 presentations plus 10 additional patterns for practice.

Duration Pattern Sequence-Standard© includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score forms as printable pdf files. The one-page instructions consist of administration and interpretation. Normative data is included for adults only. It would be reasonable to expect children over the age of eleven to test as well (or nearly as well) as adults. ©COPYRIGHT NOTICE: Auditec’s materials are protected by copyright. Each product represents one license for up to two audiometers at one location. Cafeteria Noise©

This is a noise recording. It is often used with speech discrimination (word recognition) test. Cafeteria Noise© was made in an employee cafeteria of a large hospital. The noise was over-dubbed three times at different time offsets in an attempt to maintain a more constant level over time. The recording has some intelligible speech and many transients. The Cafeteria Noise© recording is looped for 65 minutes. (This recording may be shorter if combined with other recordings.)

Cafeteria Noise© includes the audio recording only. This product does not include instructions or normative data. It is assumed that purchasers of Auditec’s products are well trained in their use, purpose, and interpretation.

Nonsense Syllable Test

The Nonsense Syllable Test© (NST) (also known as the Edgerton-Danhauer Nonsense Syllable Test) is considered similar to a word recognition or speech discrimination test. Watch the video demonstration below. (Scroll down.)

Several advantages of nonsense syllable materials over words include: increased analytic accuracy, less contamination by memory effects, less susceptibility to word familiarity effects, easier test construction and more sensitivity to the presence of auditory pathology.

All the data collected on the NST have shown that it is as easy to administer and score these as most of the traditional tests. Score sheets are available in both the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and an easy dictionary pronunciation format. The NST consists of two 25-element lists in six randomizations. It is considered suitable for both children and adults.

The Nonsense Syllable Test© includes a) audio recording, and b) instructions and score form as printable pdf files. The nine-page instructions include background, scoring, and interpretation information. Normative data is included, but it is not age-specific because the test developer observed little or no age effects.

Competing Sentences©

The Competing Sentences© is popular with both psychologists and audiologists. It is an auditory processing disorder test and is considered a dichotic sentence test for binaural separation sensitive to neuromaturation and language processing. It uses verbal stimuli and is appropriate for ages 5 and older. It consists of 30 pairs of sentences with similar subject matter within each sentence pair. These sentences were recorded so that each pair begins and ends simultaneously. Administration time is approximately 7 minutes.

Competing Sentences© includes: a) audio recording, and b) instructions and sentence list. The two-page instructions encompass format, procedure, and interpretation. Normative data for ages 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. At age 10, normal scores are 100% in both ears so it can be assumed that normal patients over age 10 would achieve similar results.

Spondee Binaural Fusion©

The Spondee Binaural Fusion© is an auditory processing disorder test for both children and adults using verbal stimuli. It is considered a binaural interaction test. It consists of selected child spondee words which have been band-pass filtered in two frequency bands: one for one channel (ear) and the other for the second channel. The low band extends from 500 to 700 Hz, the high band from 1.9 kHz to 2.1 kHz. The recording begins with pulsed speech spectrum noise, passed through the same filters for the purpose of establishing thresholds for those particular frequency bands. These thresholds are to be used to establish the proper presentation levels. Administration time is approximately four minutes.

The Spondee Binaural Fusion© includes: a) audio recording, and b) instructions and word list. The one-page instructions include administration, scoring, and interpretation information. Normative data is included, but it is not age-specific.
